Privacy Policy

Cal Traffic is a free, public-data viewer for California traffic conditions. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible.

What we collect directly

Cal Traffic does not require accounts, does not ask for your name or email, and does not run server-side analytics that personally identify you. Your camera favorites and view preferences are stored locally in your browser via localStorage and never leave your device.

To show how many people are using the site and which cameras are popular, your browser makes up a random id and checks in every two minutes while a page is open, and each camera page you open adds one to that camera's count for the hour. No IP address, cookie or device details are stored with these counts. While a page is open, the rough area Cloudflare reports for the connection (a city and state, or a country) is kept with the check-in for at most 10 minutes so the site can show where people are watching from, only as a count per area. The random ids are deleted at the end of the day; only the totals are kept.

Camera images, traffic incidents, chain controls, lane closures, and weather alerts are fetched on your behalf from public California state APIs (Caltrans CWWP2, CHP CAD, NWS) and are not associated with your visit.

Cal Traffic uses the following third-party services that may place cookies or collect data:

• Cloudflare — hosts and edge-caches Cal Traffic. Cloudflare may log IP addresses for abuse prevention. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Your choices

You can clear your locally-stored preferences (favorites, theme) at any time by clearing your browser's site data for caltraffic.com.

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Cal Traffic does not collect personal information directly and does not sell or share any. Email privacy@caltraffic.com with any questions.

Changes

We may update this policy as features and services change. The "last updated" date above will reflect the most recent change. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
